A wall collage planner: the board becomes your wall, in centimetres. Your photos go into frames with a moulding and a mat, arranged around a centre line at eye level, and a hang list tells you exactly where each frame’s edges go — measured from the wall’s left end and from the floor.
A worked example: seven frames on a 300 × 250 cm wall
| No. | Size | Left | Top above floor | Hook from left |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 34 × 27.5 | 88.5 | 175 | 105.5 |
| 2 | 34 × 27.5 | 88.5 | 142.5 | 105.5 |
| 3 | 45 × 60 | 127.5 | 175 | 150 |
| 4 | 30 × 27.5 | 177.5 | 175 | 192.5 |
| 5 | 30 × 27.5 | 177.5 | 142.5 | 192.5 |
| 6 | 30 × 27.5 | 212.5 | 175 | 227.5 |
| 7 | 30 × 27.5 | 212.5 | 142.5 | 227.5 |
The arrangements
- Salon. One frame half as big again in the middle, then pairs of smaller frames added right and left, each pair centred on the centre line.
- Grid. Equal frames in rows, centred on the wall.
- Line. One row with the centres on the centre line — over a sofa or a sideboard.
- Staircase. One row rising about 18 cm for every 28 cm across, the pitch of a common stair.
When another mode is better
One poster rather than many frames: collage poster print. Background reading on balance and spacing: photo wall layouts that remain balanced.
Your photos never leave this device.
The plan is a guide to hang from, not a print. Hook positions are given at the centre of each frame’s top edge; lower each by however far your frame’s hanger sits below its top. Check for pipes and cables before drilling.
Asked and answered
How does it work out where to hang each frame?
The board is your wall in centimetres. Every frame's outer edge is measured from the wall's left end and its top edge from the floor; the hang list reads those numbers back from the frames as they stand, so if you drag one, the list follows.
Why 145 cm?
Hanging the middle of an arrangement at about 145 cm from the floor is a common convention for eye level. It is a starting point, not a rule — change it to suit your ceiling or furniture.
Can I print the plan?
The plan is drawn at a low working resolution (25 DPI for a 3 m wall) so it stays quick to work on; export it as an image to look at. The hang list downloads as text or as a one-page A4 PDF to take to the wall.
What if the frames do not fit?
The plan is refused with the arithmetic — how wide or tall the arrangement is against the wall — so you can use fewer or smaller frames, a smaller gap, or move the centre line.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The wall is planned in this tab.
