A Facebook cover photo collage that opens on a wide 1702 × 630 px board and lays your photos in one row inside the middle band — the part the phone app keeps when it crops the sides. The sides are filled with a soft blur of your first photo, so the computer view still looks complete.
A worked example: three photos inside the phone view
What the guides mean
- Phone view. About 16:9 of the cover, centred: 1120 of 1702 px wide at full height.
- Profile photo. A circle over the lower left on a computer, drawn approximately.
- Counted. The panel says how many photos run past the phone view after you move them.
| Size | Pixels | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook cover, sharp | 1702 × 630 | The default: the desktop shape at 2× |
| Facebook cover | 851 × 315 | The desktop shape at 1× |
When another mode is better
A square or 4:5 post: Instagram collage. A tall story or status: story collage.
Your photos never leave this device.
The phone crop and profile zone come from third-party guides and change when the platform redesigns its pages. The platform also recompresses uploads, so the posted cover is softer than the file.
Asked and answered
What size is the cover?
The board opens at 1702 × 630 px — the 851 × 315 shape third-party size guides give for a desktop cover, at twice the pixels so it stays sharp on high-density screens. 851 × 315 is in the size list too.
Why are the sides shaded?
The phone app shows the cover at about 16:9, so on this wide shape it keeps the full height and cuts the sides. The shaded parts are what a phone does not show; the default layout keeps every photo between the dashed lines.
What is the red circle?
Roughly where the profile photo sits over the cover on a computer. Its exact place changes with the page design, so treat it as a zone to keep faces out of, and check on your own page after posting.
Are the guides in the file?
No. The shading, dashed lines and circle are drawn on the board only. The export is the whole cover.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The cover is laid out and written to a JPEG by this browser tab.
